The 8th Latin-American Symposium on Animal Cell Technology (SLATCC 2018) is a conference focused on Pharmaceutical Biotechnology that will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from October 21st to 24th, 2018.

Since its first edition held in Rio de Janeiro in 2004, followed by editions held in São Paulo (Brazil, 2006), Havana (Cuba, 2008), Montevideo (Uruguay, 2010), Santa Fé (Argentina, 2012), Valparaíso (Chile, 2014) and Cocoyoc (Mexico, 2016), the conference has been gathering the Ibero-American community working on animal cell technology, biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, cell and gene therapies, enabling technologies, and related areas.

In its 8th edition, the meeting will have plenary talks, oral presentations and poster presentations, as well as industrial workshops and an exhibition of vendors and equipment suppliers. As successfully occurred in all earlier editions, oral language of activities will be Spanish, Portuguese and English, without simultaneous translation. Written materials, including posters and slides, will be prepared in English.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is July 16th, 2018. There will be a prize for the best poster presentations. Among the abstracts submitted for oral presentation, the outstanding ones might be invited for a longer talk at the beginning of the respective session. Oral and poster sessions will focus on the following topics:

- Continuous and integrated processes
- Product development and product quality
- Biosimilars
- Viral and recombinant vaccines
- Cell and nucleic acid therapies
